Previous Indonesia Energy Consumption Status

“Energy Crisis” is the horrible term describing world condition at the moment. This condition is getting worst by population booming without increasing of energy resources. World energy resources will run out in the sort future because world energy demand always increases. In 2007, World primary energy consumption increased by 2.4% with “The most greedy” countries likes China and USA. Our country, Indonesia, is at the 21^st rank in world energy consumption now. The table below shows energy consumption of several countries including Indonesia.

Table 1.1 shows that world dependence on fossil fuel is high whereas the reserve is limited. Indonesia actually has limited oil reserve, the proven reserve by the end of 2007 was only 4,4 Billion Barrel (BP, 2008). Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that if there are no inventions of new field, Indonesia oil reserve will run out during 18 years, natural gas 60 years and coal 150 years. Indonesia should improve renewable energy production in order to support our national development.

Renewable energy is the only one which consider could support world sustainable development. Unfortunately, the world renewable energy consumption is so few until now. In Indonesia, renewable energy consumption is less than 5 % from Indonesia mix energy utilization. Mostly, Indonesia use fossil fuel as like as other country in the world. A lot of portion of Indonesia energy is supplying electricity and transportation.
